April 7 - Maureen Austin - "Low Water! Color! Action!"
Low Water! Color! Action! You CAN have it all... (in your garden, anyway!)
You can have it all--lush color, low water, and lots of birds and butterflies--
all from the same plants! Plus, these are perennial plants that just get bigger and better with each passing year, increasing the "winged wildlife" entertainment in, and general value of your garden.
Learn which plants these are--and how to best incorporate them into your existing yard or landscape.
This program is presented by Maureen Austin, executive director of CHIRP, who will share ideas, photos, plant cuttings, seeds and more to help you jump-start your "backyard entertainment center".
She will also share several species of native butterflies, in all life-cycle stages (egg, caterpillar, chrysalisis and adult), while relating the best way to attract them.
"In order to attract butterflies to your yard, it helps to THINK like a butterfly," she says. Knowing what they want--and need--will help you entice them."
Maureen Austin successfully motivated her hometown community of Alpine, California to become the First Community Habitat in the United States--so-certified by the National Wildlife Federation. The project is known as "Sage & Songbirds."
She has received numerous awards for her work, including the National Wildlife Federation's Annual Conservation Achievement Award in Education.
